How It Started
Eric Hobson is an avid fisherman and philanthropist. After talking with a fishing lodge owner about the plight of wild salmon off Canada’s West Coast, Eric read and talked extensively with experts about the risks to wild salmon. He was shocked to learn of the harmful effects of salmon farming on the marine environment, including on wild salmon populations around the world and at home in British Columbia. Eric listened carefully to First Nations, wilderness tourism businesses and recreational anglers about their deep concern about the effects of salmon farms on the marine environment.
The risks posed by open net-cage salmon farms on B.C.’s coast led him to launch the Save Our Salmon Initiative.
